No space like home? project has launched

Our ESRC-funded project No space like home? Small domestic properties, compensatory urbanism and housing futures in English cities formally began on 1 December 2024 and will run until the Spring of 2027. We’ll be using this page to report project progress, milestones and outputs: the fieldwork components of the work will commence in Spring / Summer 2025 and will include interviews with those living in small homes, as well as work with developers, planners, architects and other stakeholders to understand the imperatives driving the construction of small homes in England today. We will share updates here, and flag the publication of resources such as reports and journal articles which we will post on our Output pages. At a later stage we also hope to be able to share the first comprehensive overview of housing size in England and Wales which will draw on data in over 28m Energy Performance Certificates alongside sales data, floorplans and census statistics.
